OverviewChildren every day all over the United States face the challenging reality of their parents fighting for our country. As a journalist, I witnessed the deployment of soldiers a few years ago and it inspired me to write this short-but-hopefully meaningful book. Carrie provided the beautiful illustrations on each of the 26 pages that exquisitely describe the words. Ally is a 6-year-old girl dealing with her dad heading to war. She cherishes the final moments with him at home before watching him leave, not knowing when he will return. Her mom and Uncle David help Ally understand how brave her dad is but as thousands of parents deal with in real life every day, Ally struggles to balance that with how much she misses him. They also try and help Ally understand more about war and conflict. I hope the book serves the children and families of those serving us.
