OverviewHelp your child feel understood, comforted, and proud, no matter the distance. Military deployments can be tough on little hearts. Daddy Goes on Deployment is a heartwarming, rhyming story that gently walks children through each phase of deployment: goodbyes, staying in touch, sending care packages, and the joy of homecoming. Whether it's the first deployment or the fifth, this beautifully illustrated picture book helps children understand that even when Dad is far away, his love is always near. Through lyrical verse and relatable scenes, young readers will see their own feelings reflected and validated. They'll learn it's okay to cry, miss someone deeply, and ask questions about where Dad is and why he had to go. The story introduces military life in an age-appropriate way and offers hope, pride, and comfort throughout the journey. Ideal for children ages 2 to 8, this book is perfect for Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine, or Coast Guard families preparing for deployment. It also makes a meaningful Father's Day gift, birthday surprise, or addition to any care package sent from home. Written by a Navy dad with 18 years of active duty experience and four children of his own, Daddy Goes on Deployment was created from real-life deployments and heartfelt goodbyes. It's the book he wishes he had during his own separations, and now it's a keepsake to support yours. Let your child know: it's okay to feel, and even from afar, Daddy is still near. Table of ContentsReviewsA Must-Read for Families Facing Military Deployment This book is an absolute gem for families navigating the challenges of parental deployment. It delivers a compassionate, insightful, and age-appropriate approach to helping kids understand and process their emotions when a parent enlists or is drafted. The author does a remarkable job weaving warmth, empathy, and practical guidance into each page, ensuring that both children and parents feel seen and supported. What sets this book apart is its balance of honesty and reassurance. It acknowledges the fears and uncertainties children may experience while also providing them with tools to cope, stay connected, and find strength in the midst of change. Whether you're a military family preparing for deployment or someone looking to support a child going through this transition, this book is a must-read. I highly recommend it! -Zaya A Vital Military Resource This book is a valuable resource in a space that lacks for military families. Deployments, TADs, and extended absences are all too common in the Military. Across the board, our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines deploy and travel across the world. More often than not, they leave behind families (both chosen and not) that might be scratching their heads waiting for their loved one to come home. Frankly, this book is closing that gap. I wish I had this when I had to leave my boys in Okinawa as I got sent across the world. Then again, when I deployed to Europe, and even traveled across the country. If you know a military family that's coming up on these trials, I highly recommend this piece for them. Help their kids understand and make their parent's journey a literal bedtime story. -Devin Perfect Must Have for Deployment I bought this for my almost 3 year old son, but honestly, it touches my heart just as much. Going through deployments with little ones is a different kind of tough, and I love our bedtime reads as a special way to hold on to hope and comfort. It means the world to us to read this every night, dreaming of the day his daddy comes home! -Aurora A cute and touching book for families! What a sweet book this was. You can really feel the love he put into writing it. This is something that can be part of bedtime routines for so many kids who's parents are serving our country. It will help them feel seen and know that others are going through the same thing. 5 stars wasn't enough, if you have a young kid and are being deployed or know someone who is, buy this book for them, I know I will. -McKayla A true love letter from a father. I love it. My kids 6 an 10 did to. As a family of veterans this book brings up alot common topic. Deployment and how we deal as kids and parents. This is a great addition to our little book collection for reading time. Love the artstyle an the writing is easy to understand for a young child to adult. Excellent. -Jessica MILITARY MUST HAVE! I wish I had a book like this for my baby when she was born. We are a military family on both sides. This book will help military children (especially with parents in the navy) understand their parents position/jobs more when they're gone from home. -Justice Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
