One of the most feared secondary school subjects is math. Just the word 'algebra' strikes fear in the heart of the average student. 'Everyone can learn math to high levels.' Armed with statistics and creativity, Jeanne Holmberg authored Crush Math Anxiety with Drones. This book shares math creatively and in an interesting way. Drones are a significant rage today. Jeanne uses drones and imagination to assuage the anxiety that surrounds math. In chapters 4-8, the author presents a scenario where you are the owner of a drone warehouse. Each chapter presents a short story, the big ideas, and additional insights. In other words, something for everyone. This book is an encouragement to continue to grow one's mind and learn how to do math. Believing in oneself plays an important role. Drones can easily catch the attention of middle and secondary school students. Jeanne Holmberg is a math teacher who brings her experience of motivating students to the written page in 'Crush Math Anxiety with Drones'. One of the problems many students face is the thought that they can never expand their minds to the point that they can comprehend the intricacies of math. With encouragement and a growth mindset, students can understand higher math functions. They not only can understand, but they can actually thrive in math. Every student needs to remember to ask questions, participate in discussions, and know how to use suitable reference materials. This book will help students become interested in doing well in math subjects. It will make math come alive and be relevant to real life. Readers' Favorite, P. Van Heusen, 5-star This type of integrated, relevant, project-based learning is exactly what students need to connect Mathematics to a world of possibility. Steve Griffin - Head of School - The MacDuffie School This is a wonderful book to convince students that they can do math. Using the exploding field of drone technology to entice them, this book engages students in their own learning and advances conversation in areas they may not even think of exploring on their own. Joy Dimaggio, retired Coordinator Of School Counseling, k-12 Enfield Public Schools, Enfield, CT 'Crush Math Anxiety With Drones' is a self-help guidebook by Jeanne Holmberg meant to teach students to approach mathematics through a unique and fresh outlook, combined with the increasingly popular Drone technology. Holmberg encourages readers to utilize the growth mindset conceived by Carol Dweck with her colleagues in 2006. It offers exciting educational opportunities founded upon the belief that one person can develop their basic abilities over time through dedication, hard work, and practice. The activities at the end of each chapter can be used for peer discussion, family discussion, class exploration, teen clubs, homeschooling, and much more. Holmberg also provides real-life examples of drone racing businesses and highlights the ways students can use it to ease their math anxiety. Students also receive a preview of some of the big ideas they will explore in high school math courses. Apart from the tools discussed in the book to help students become more enamored with mathematics, author Jeanne Holmberg also provides readers with links directed to Ted Talks of free videos by expert speakers on math and links to drone displays, competitions, racing, etc. In 'Crush Math Anxiety With Drones', students will find fascinating new ways to tackle their math problems as well as an interest in a sport and technology that is becoming increasingly popular all over the world -- drone racing and drone technology in general. This is an informative and highly researched book that 7th to 10th-grade students will find not only helpful and educational but also very motivational and inspiring to read. Highly recommended.
