The award-winning feature film Gegen Die Wand (Head On) by the Hamburg-based filmmaker Fatih Akin led to the project of a documentary film portraying the diverse and vibrant music scene of Istanbul: Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul . The photographs in this volume were taken during the shooting of the film and consequently reveal facets of a city that has fascinated the director from his early childhood days. Istanbul includes 4 audio CDs. The musical backdrop to these impressions is provided by a selection of tracks from Fatih Akin's personal collection, including original and previously unreleased out-takes from this film.

Herve Dieu is a graduate of the celebrated Louis Lumiere camera school in France. Since then, the Frenchman has been cameraman on a wide variety of projects. He has made a creative contribution to a series of Fatih Akin projects, including Im Juli and Crossing the Bridge.
