He is author of Gender Struggles: Wage-earning Women and Male-dominated Unions in Postwar Japan (Harvard University Asia Center, 2009). Dr Gerteis' current research investigates the intersection of consumer capitalism, industrial heritage and historical memory in the twentieth century.
