OverviewThis code of practice, issued under Part II of the 1996 Act, sets out information on the procedures to be used by police officers to record, retain and reveal to the prosecutor material obtained in a criminal investigation. The code extends only to England and Wales, and covers the following topics: definitions; general responsibilities; recording of information; retention of material; preparation and revelation of material to the prosecutor; subsequent action and certification by the disclosure officer; and disclosure of material to the accused.
