He founded the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Rhode Island after the state's banking and credit union crisis in 1991. In the hopes of improving financial understanding, he also founded, and was formerly the managing director of, the University of Rhode Island Center for Personal Financial Education. He is a nationally syndicated columnist for the financial mega site Bankrate. Dean Gallagher has been narrating audiobooks for over a decade, with over fifty books spanning multiple genres.
