The images can be colored and so make a nice combination of image and story. This encourages creativity by giving a prompt that is still somewhat specific but yet very open to interpretation. Lori's daughter loves this book: My 12 year old has really enjoyed using this journal and creating her own stories to accompany the image on the page. It is a fun way to do her school work and still encourage creativity in her writing. While nonfiction writing is important, stretching creativity is also important. This is a wonderful tool for that. Highly recommend. This was a good way to get my daughter writing about different things. We used it intermittently with several other Funschooling Journals from The Thinking Tree. These books really simplified our homeschool while allowing the kids to branch out and explore their own interests.
