Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationAsim Kurjak, M.D., Ph.D., is Chairman of the Department and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Zagreb, Zagreb Yugoslavia. He is also Head of the Ultrasonic Institute of Zagreb which is the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for diagnostic ultrasound.Dr. Kurjak obtained his training at the University of Zagreb, receiving his M.D. degree in 1966 and his Ph.D. degree in 1977. He served as an assistant professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Zagreb from 1968 to 1980. In 1971, as a British scholar he was Research Assistant for one year at the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of London under Prof. Stuart Campbell. From 1983 to 1985 he was External Examiner at the University of Liverpool. It was in 1983 that he assumed his present position.Dr. Kurjak is a member and past president of the Yugoslav Society of University Professors. He is a member of the advisory board of five international scientific journals. He served as Vice President of the European Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. He is also the President of the International Society “Fetus as a Patient”. He has been the recipient of many research grants from the Scientific Council from Yugoslavia and is currently the WHO coordinator for the use of ultrasound in developing countries. Recently he has been elected as a member of the Executive Bureau of World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. Among other awards, he is an honorary member of the Ultrasonic Society of Australia, Italy, Egypt, and Spain, and of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Italy, Poland, Hungary, Egypt, Spain, and Chile. He is also an honorary fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Recently, he has been elected the Secretary of the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.Dr. Kurjak has presented over 90 invited lectures at major international meetings and approximately 100 guest lectures at universities and institutes. He has published more than 200 research papers and 14 books in the English language. Lately, in conjunction with Prof. Kazuo Maeda, he published Textbook of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Japanese. Ultrasound and Infertility and Fetal Growth Retardation—Diagnosis and Therapy, were published by CRC Press.His current major research interests include conventional and color Doppler studies of fetoplacental and maternal circulation.
