Reviews

How often have patients and families living with the diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) had to live not only with the effects of the brain injury but also other's lack of understanding about the devastating effects a TBI has on the family? The author, Dr. Janis Ruoff, shares, with humility, honesty, and humor, her family's journey covering 27 years of life. This book provides a valuable example of how an accident that lasted minutes continues to impact the family decades later, and is valuable reading for anyone touched by the diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). As a doctor who has cared for patients and families living with Traumatic Brain Injury I LOVED THIS BOOK. I am wiser from reading this book and learned so much from Janis's lessons learned and efforts to create a life that works for everyone in the family. Sharon Montes, M.D. Physician and Life Coach

Author Information

Dr. Janis Ruoff was a speech-language pathologist and disability advocate for over twenty years before her son's TBI and thought she knew about brain injury and its effects, but life after Jeff's car accident taught her how much she did not know until she was living with TBI on a daily basis. She went on to be a leader in the brain injury movement, research faculty member at the George Washington University in Washington D.C., and the founder and Director of GW's Center for Education and Human Services in Acquired Brain Injury. She lives in Windsor, Colorado with her three generation family. This is her first book. To learn more about Janis and read her weekly blog postings, go to her web site at: www.janisruoff.com.
