Overview

Admittedly, since the discovery of COVID-19, we have witnessed a storm of scientific publications on this infection, covering topics of interest such as epidemiology, clinical aspects, radiology, biology, therapeutics, prognosis, and vaccinology. However, despite the relevance of the issue, the association between COVID-19 and autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases remains little studied. Thus, a literature review with six objectives has been conducted. First, to present the current epidemiological aspects of COVID-19 and its association with autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. Second, to expose the pathophysiological and clinical similarities between COVID-19 and autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. Third, to present the reference diagnostic tools of COVID-19. Fourth, to analyze the relationship between COVID-19 and autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases in terms of prognosis and susceptibility. Fifth, to discuss immunosuppressive treatments during COVID-19 infection. Finally, sixth, to address the immunogenetic, clinical, and especially epidemiological (rare = 1/2000) classification of autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases.
