OverviewThis book will become your go-to source for ideas not only to help you plan, conduct, and enjoy special time with your grandchildren but also to avert problems before they happen. This book advises grandparents how to hold a Cousins Camp focusing on grandchildren 5-10 years old as well as tips for conducting a Family Camp (still focused on the kids but including parents as well). After six years of experience of holding Cousin Camps, the author has thought of everything to make things run smoothly. She provides you with information about what to expect and how to overcome any foreseen obstacles to having a great time with your grandchildren. It contains specific ideas for packing lists, games, activities, arts/crafts, theme nights, decorations, recipe suggestions, photo examples and even includes a survey to get feedback from your campers. Many of the suggestions will work for children through their early teen years. The children will love your Cousins Camp, and with the aid of this book and so will you! Whether you have the afternoon or a week with your grandchildren, this book will provide great ideas for your time together. She was one of the first teachers in the United States to attain certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. With that honor came an invitation to the White House and a meeting with President Bill Clinton. In 1999-2000, she was the Georgetown County Teacher of the Year, and she was the South Carolina Journalism Teacher of the Year in 2005. She and her pediatrician husband, Paul, have three married children and nine grandchildren. Though the Hletkos are fortunate to live by a beach in South Carolina, their children are in professions that took them to the big cities of Chicago and Washington, DC. Jana came up with Cousins Camp to solve her own issue of wanting to see her grandchildren more often than just family gatherings and to be able to share special 1:1 time with them as children. She has succeeded in creating wonderful memories that will be enjoyed by each of her grandchildren as well as for herself. When Jana stayed at home with her children when they were young, she and her husband became interested in child car safety and helped to get legislation passed requiring child car seats. She worked for a community hospital in an education program to encourage seat belt and car seat use. After being prodded by friends to share her creativity and experience, she has written this book to help others enjoy the fun and excitement of planning, conducting, and enjoying their own Cousins Camp to spend special time with their grandchildren.
