Counterculture in the Hands of the Beat Generation

Overview

The focus of this paper is to analyze the counterculture as a movement of social transformation from the poem Howl, by the American writer Allen Ginsberg, considered the howl of the youth of the mid-1950s, who were dissatisfied with the current establishment in social institutions strongly influenced by the dark context of the post-World War II period. Since Ginsberg's poetry is still little studied, it opens up the possibility of understanding the elements that make up the American counterculture through it, especially as it is avant-garde literature, not least to understand the context of the formation of the movement of which Ginsberg was an active member, the Beat Generation. It certainly opens up the possibility of understanding the initial formation of the counterculture in a comprehensive way and also about the future countercultural movements that emerged after the beats, since they were precursors in terms of manifestations aimed at challenging the status quo of their time.
