Countdown to Christ was written by two teachers who have a heart for children and want to help families bring Catholic learning opportunities into their own homes. This book is meant to be a simple guide for families of all ages to discover Christ's family tree (Jesse Tree) in preparation for Jesus' birth. During the four weeks of Advent, which is the period leading up to Christmas, families often create or display a small Jesse Tree. Each day, a new ornament or symbol representing a different person or event from the Old Testament is added to the tree. These symbols often include figures like Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and others, as well as significant events like the parting of the Red Sea and the giving of the Ten Commandments. The progression of symbols helps tell the story of salvation history leading up to the birth of Jesus Christ. The Jesse Tree tradition serves as a way to reflect on the importance of Christ's biirth in the context of the broader biblical narrative. It is a visual reminder of how Jesus' lineage and birth are intertwined with the history of God's relationship with humanity as told in the Old Testament stories. There are 25 stories that correspond with 25 ornaments (SOLD SEPARATELY), each representing the 25 days in December leading up to Christmas. Some of the stories are simple for young learners, while others are more complex. Repeated, yearly exposure will help your whole family understand the journey of God's chosen people and will, hopefully, be a helpful guide during your family's Advent season.
