OverviewLife for South African detective William Granger starts with death. His hobbies are archaeology and mythology. The disappearance of Sophia Brooks leads him to Mpumalanga (the Place Where the Sun Rises). He finds skeletal remains in a dilapidated farmhouse. The cellar collapses leaving William crippled and claustrophobic. The case seems dead. Then Bullion Mining unearths a mass grave in Mpumalanga's mystical Makhonjwa Mountains (the Mountains that Show the Way) and William is ordered to investigate. The skeletons are in a man-made cavern containing ancient symbols that will create chaos with present day cultural and religious beliefs. William draws archaeologist Alexandra Pendleton into a world where the truth seems misleading. Bullion Mining will stop at nothing to get their operations back on track. The members of the Barberton Heritage Committee, who control the area, are also not averse to advancing their personal ambitions. Reverend Coombs foresees a threat to his religion and way of life. And William? Does he have his own agenda? Are the symbols in the cavern forged? As the archaeological secrets are revealed the danger heightens. Betrayal and deceit becomes the order of the day.
