OverviewThis book is dedicated to the study of the Russian cavalry, and cavalry attacks, on the Eastern Front during the First World War 1914-16. The tactical application of Russian cavalry as well as specific accounts of cavalry operations and battles are included, the latter described in some detail. As one of the generals rightly noted, What the infantry could not do, the cavalry will do. A mass of interesting and little-known material features in this book, including information about the exotic irregular cavalry units of the Russian Imperial Army. Some of the cavalry operations are reconstructed on the basis of documents from the Russian State Military Historical Archive (RGVIA), thus the information becomes available to readers for the first time. In addition to both operational-strategic and tactical combat descriptions, the author also pays attention to the armament and equipment of the cavalry. A Doctor of Historical Sciences, and leading specialist in the history of the Eastern (Russian) Front of the First World War, he is a professor at Astrakhan State University, Astrakhan State Technical University, Belarussian Institute of Law (BIP), head of the Caspian Research Center for Russian history.
