His research has been directed towards institutional change as well as the production and diffusion of management knowledge. Since the 1960s he has continuously published his research in monographs, journal articles and edited books. He is an elected member of a number of learned societies, and has received honorary degrees from Åbo Akademi University and the Stockholm School of Economics.
