Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationRenato Guimaraes is a journalist with extensive experience in the role of civil society organizations in promoting social justice issues. He holds a Master in International relations from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Renato is Co-Founder of Together, a Brazilian agency focused on fostering social change by mobilizing and engaging individuals and organizations in social impact causes. He is also Co-Founder of O Sujeito, a crowdfunding channel for independent journalism. Prior to Together, Renato worked as Senior Strategist at Purpose, a NYC-based agency focused on incubation of social impact movements. He also managed communications and civil society relations in Brazil for IFC, the World Bank's private arm. Renato started his career as a journalist at O Globo, one of the main Brazilian newspapers. Early on, however, he applied his communications skills to help improve the impact of progressive civil society organizations such as Projeto Roda Viva, a NGO working with environmental education in public schools and literacy projects in a favela in Rio de Janeiro. He managed campaigns and communications for Greenpeace Brazil and was part of the team that crafted and launched Akatu Institute, the first initiative in Brazil dedicated to promote conscious consumption. Between 2000 and 2008 Renato lived in Lima, Peru, where he managed campaigns and communications for Oxfam GB's office for the South American region. After returning to Brazil he helped found Gestao Origami, a private consulting agency focused on helping national and international companies to incorporate sustainability values and practices into their core businesses. He also helped found the Brazilian Association of Sustainability Professionals and was part of its first Executive Board. Renato co-authored a book called Sustentabilidade: O Futuro Agora (Sustainability: The Future, Now) about the close relationship between sustainability, digital communication, and social change.
