Overview

Laut der Allgemeinen Erklärung der Menschenrechte (1948) ist die religiöse Konversion ein Grundrecht des Menschen. Nicht alle religiösen Traditionen akzeptieren dies. Manche erlauben die Konversion zur eigenen Religion, verwehren sie aber ihren Anhängern. Manche unterscheiden zwischen freiwilliger Konversion, welche sie akzeptieren, und organisiertem Proselytismus, welchen sie ablehnen. Manche nehmen die Konversion als gegeben an, bedauern sie aber, andere drohen Konvertiten mit der Todesstrafe, weil sie die Religion verlassen haben, in die sie hineingeboren wurden. Trotzdem gibt es viele Arten der Konversion: philosophische, intellektuelle, moralische, spirituelle, und vielerlei Arten religiöser Konversion. Die 32. Konferenz für Religionsphilosophie an der Claremont Graduate University im Jahre 2011 befasste sich mit dieser komplexen Thematik aus religiöser, juristischer, philosophischer und theologischer Perspektive.
