Convergence

Overview

Convergence is a group of five short stories, based on true occurrences, whose primary and original intent is to entertain, while nurturing and instructing the reader's intellect. These stories took place around 4 BC to 30 AD, in the land called Israel. Each story's focus is on people who can be discovered in the Gospels, but whose roles are so small, the reader might nearly forget that they were real people, with backgrounds, feelings, hopes, emotions and intentions. Embedded within the stories, you may perceive some humor and sorrow, victories and failures, folly and wisdom; but most importantly, truth contrasted with empty and fruitless traditions of men. The characters' names may not be very important, but their roles are essential to the ultimate workings of what we often call Providence. Convergence suggests the roots and circumstances of the lives of real people, living souls that were woven into the momentous fabric, the warp or woof, of an invisible and mysterious tapestry of benevolent purpose. Among the characters here portrayed, the reader will initially find a person who had observed troubling, widespread contradictions in both religious and base superstitious creeds, yet were most often vehemently upheld and defended by those steadfast believers. Can truth be found? There is next a man who had, ironically, emersed himself in a misdirected and utterly hopeless lifestyle and worldview. How much deeper would his struggling despair sink into an inky abyss? What was the deal with Israel's wealthy but conflicted tax superintendent? We'll be enlightened in our third story. Next, a severely handicapped, incurable boy would grow into a man, not knowing that his life had been fixed in a nearly parallel universe with a man who converged with him at the intersection of two lines in infinite space and time. Finally, we encounter a man born into privilege and wealth, whose exalted religious education and culture had made him arrogant and overconfident. Could this man be humbled and saved from a system that unwittingly and subtly condemned him?
