Overview

Hazardous air pollutants have been identified as a serious pollution problem. Compared to conventional air pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, these pollutants are released into the air in relatively small amounts. However, they can threaten human health and the environment at local, regional and global levels. Identifying and listing hazardous air pollutants constitutes an initial step to controlling them. This publication aims to assess how serious the problem is and how to control it , by drawing on case studies made in seven OECD countries. Examining such a range of control strategies lays the foundation for a global strategy for controlling hazardous air pollutants.
