Content and Strategy Centered Teaching and Learning: Teaching Marginalized and Special Need Students

Overview

Content/Strategy Centered Teaching and Learning This is the book that teachers have long awaited. The CSCTL was developed based on concepts of student interest. This book helps teachers to understand the different phases of the lesson and related activities. In this book, the different phases of lesson and related activities correspond to (1) Triggered Interest, (2) Maintained Interest, (3) Sustained Interest, (4) Shared Interest, and (5) Personal Interest. Fundamentally, the CSCTL is truly student centered; the CSCTL methods help teachers to emphasize maximizing students' learning achievements at every phase of the lesson. The Content and Strategy Centered Teaching and Learning (CSCTL) is about how teacher may more effectively prepare and facilitate students to develop the capacities to receive, create, and utilize content knowledge. This book especially helps to explain the differences and relationships between Content and Strategy Teaching and Learning, and it is useful for all teachers (inclusive of substitute teachers). Specifically, Content Teaching and Strategy Teaching differ, but they complement each other; together, they are a general method that every teacher might use to achieve optimal learning experiences for students. For example, Content Teaching has the focus to explain concepts (how problems may be solved), but Strategy Teaching has the focus to facilitate students' efforts (how students may be encouraged to apply themselves). These require two differing mindsets; relying exclusively on Content or Strategy Teaching alone does not help to fully develop students' capacities to receive, create, and utilize content knowledge. The Content and Strategy Teaching methods are complementary. Teachers who use this book will understand the two teaching methods; and they would find the book invaluable in developing the skills necessary to teach marginalized and special need students. With the CSCTL, teachers learn the skills to (1) trigger, (2) maintain, (3) Sustain, (4) Integrate, and (5) personalize student interest.
