Reviews

In this careful study of the eminent pastor-theologian Andrew Fuller, Michael Bryant has provided readers with an enlightening exposition of Fuller's theology and practice of prayer. Bryant's work not only provides a significant scholarly contribution, but offers readers an accessible model of a life of theologically informed prayer. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Baptist studies, eighteenth-century evangelicalism, or spiritual theology. --Dustin Bruce, Assistant Professor of Christian Theology and Church History, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Dean of Boyce College In his lifetime, Andrew Fuller knew genuine revival. He also knew that foundational to such a move of God was prayer, both corporate and personal. In this study of Fuller's theology and praxis of prayer, Matthew Bryant breaks new ground in Fuller studies to reveal what was fundamental and central to the Baptist theologian's life, namely, calling upon the name of the Lord Jesus. A must-read for scholars as well as pastors interested in the intersection of eighteenth-century and modern spirituality. --Michael A. G. Haykin, Professor of Church History, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Matthew Bryant's reconstruction and analysis of Andrew Fuller's theology of prayer skillfully employ the fields of historical theology, systematic theology, and spiritual formation. Highly recommended! --Adam Harwood, McFarland Professor of Theology, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and editor of the Journal for Baptist Theology & Ministry
