Overview

Our age marks a departure, by governments throughout the west, from the norms that had come to define advanced, liberal democracies in the post-war period. Alas, western democracies are everywhere backsliding and retreating from their adherence to these values and institutions. The essays in this volume probe the sources and malaise now confronting liberal constitutional democracy. However, they go much further. Many of the essays are, indeed, roadmaps for a realistic and cultivated response to our present condition. The clues for a rehabilitated democracy are found here both analytically and prescriptively.

Peter L. Biro is the Founder of SECTION 1. He is a passionate advocate for civil liberties, human rights, civic engagement, wildlife conservation, and animal welfare. He is a lawyer, businessman and community leader and is currently President and CEO of Newcon Optik, a world leader in the design and manufacture of electro-optic technology. He is Chair of the Advisory Board of tech start-up RightBlue Labs Inc., oa ""AVAIL"". He has served as President of Canadian Friends of Haifa University as well as serving on the Board of Governors of the University of Haifa. He was a Director of West Toronto Support Services for Senior Citizens and the Disabled Inc. and a member of the Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs Program Committee.
