Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationOn 13th November 1939 Peter Scott Janes was a twenty-one year old grocer's assistant working at the International Tea Stores in Esher, Surrey. His main interests up until that time had been girls; one in particular - Miss Gladys Doreen Cooper - with whom he had recently fallen out. Of more immediate concern to him that day though was the receipt of his Military Service Registration Papers - Peter Janes was about to become a soldier. There is no evidence that Peter Janes was ever a hero to anyone except his wife and son, but he intended to write a book called Conscript Heroes , a fictional account based on his experiences in France. Peter died unexpectedly on 3rd March 1998, aged eighty-one, with the book unfinished. Subsequently Peter's son, Keith Janes, has combined his father's diaries with other supporting documents to write a non-fiction book under the original title.
