OverviewThis text consists of three parts, which explore consciousness from different angles. Firstly, from the philosophical point of view, showing the central tasks of consciousness for representation, intentionality and for designing and following rules, as they have to be performed in order for language, understanding and espcially denotational semantics to be possible. Secondly, from the perspective of connectionist and neuro-cognitive, especially neuro-dynamical approaches, which model at least partially how, under a large-scale view, the brain might work in achieving the central tasks of consciouness. Thirdly, from the view which combines the philosophical with the neuro-dynamic approach in order to find and determine a standpoint about some disputed questions in consciouness research. Table of ContentsReviewsThe overall structure of the book is very clear, taking the reader from a foundational philosophical argumentation to a detailed conceptual - yet not too technical - description of the workings of the account, before it finally deals with some interesting theoretical implications thereof. -- Daniel Wiechmann,Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany, in ICLA-review, February 2008 Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
