Treatments for chronic ailments are individualized, as this form of Ayurvedic medicine stresses that the person is treated, not the disease. Although the authors assume some knowledge of the topic, their thoughtfully written guide presents the concepts in a very readable style, explaining how to apply them to the treatment of chronic conditions. The appendix includes information on locating practitioners of Maharishi Vedic Medicine and a lengthy list of recommended reading. Reddy, and anesthesiologist and faculty member at Albany Medical College before becoming director of the Maharishi Vedic Health Center in Bethesda, MD, has written extensively on this subject, as has Egenes, who teaches at the Maharishi University of Management. Recommended for consumer health collections with extensive holdings in alternative health.-- (11/26/2001) A publication of the Maharishi University of Management May 1, 2002 Faculty member Linda Eugenes has co-authored a new book with Kumuda Reddy, M.D., called Conquering Chronic Disease Through Maharishi Vedic Medicine. The book explains the six stages of disease and describes how Maharishi Vedic Medicine offers diagnostic tools to detect disease in the early stages, before symptoms manifest. It offers a range of solutions, including diet, lifestyle, herbal formulas, the Transcendental Meditation program, and other techniques to develop consciousness. The book also describes the relationship of the Veda and human physiology as discovered by His Majesty Raja Nader Raam, Tony Nader, M.D., Ph.D. The book highlights case histories of people who have recovered from serious illnesses by using these approaches and includes numerous scientific research studies. University staff and faculty members who helped with the book include Shepley Hansen, Mary Zeilbeck, and Martha Bright.-- (02/05/2004) A World of Ideas on Fresh Food and Healthy People May 12-June 11, 2002 [excerpted]In their new book, Conquering Chronic Disease Through Maharishi Vedic Medicine, authors Kumuda Reddy, M.D., and Fairfield (Iowa) resident Linda Egenes, say that suffering from chronic disease is entirely preventable through the natural and holistic approach of Maharishi Vedic Medicine. The authors argue that the medical profession and the pharmaceutical companies are misguided in their approach to dealing with chronic disease. A hundred years ago, infectious disease was the greatest threat to health. In perhaps the most detailed account to date of this natural and holistic approach to health, the authors explain how chronic disease arises and how it can be prevented. They go deeply into Vedic understanding of how the physiology functions, especially the importance of the digestive and elimination systems whose proper functioning are keys to good health...This book is packed with practical how-to information on diet, exercise, massage and the authors support their arguments with scientific studies and patient profiles taken from Dr. Reddy's own practice. The central message of this book is that with proper foresight, chronic disease can and should be prevented by literally averting the danger that has not yet come. It is a road map for perfect health, equally useful for physicians and patients alike. It is highly readable with clear illustrations, is thoroughly researched and is recommended not only to those who have a chronic complaint, but also to anyone interested in maintaining a good state of health.--Tony Ellis-- (02/05/2004) Iowa's Enlightening Magazine June 2002 Local writer Linda Egenes recently co-authored a new book with Kumuda Reddy, M.D., called Conquering Disease through Maharishi Vedic Medicine.
