Overview

Following decades of ignoring the environment, China has become a global leader in air and water purification, solid waste management, and wastewater treatment with dramatic growth especially in solar and wind power while major outstanding problems include continued reliance on coal and other fossil fuels especially in power plants and heavy industry. Nancy Liu-Sullivan has a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular pharmacology with expertise in cancer genomics and is currently a doctoral lecturer in the Department of Biology, College of Staten Island (CSI), City University of New York. She is co-editor and co-translator of China’sWaterCrisis (2004) by Ma Jun and Historical Dictionary of Science and Technology in Modern China (2015). Lawrence R. Sullivan is a professor emeritus of political science, Adelphi University, and a co-editor and co-translator of Yangtze! Yangtze! (1989) and The River Dragon has Come!: The Three Gorges Dam and the Fate of China’s Yangtze River and Its People (1998) both by Dai Qing.
