Overview

This publication offers a consideration of the historical background and the theological and pastoral presuppositions of the Second Vatican Council, through a review of the documents of the Council. It is divided in three sections. Part I takes a look at the historical and conceptual framework which served as a background for the Council. In it there is a review of the immediate movement of ideas and concerns which led to the Council. Part II presents an overview of the Council sessions. Part Three provides a summary and brief commentary on each of the documents of the Council. In the Appendix section the reader will find a brief reflection on the meaning of tradition and the nature of change within that tradition, plus a brief history of the ecumenical councils in history. A Glossary is included, together with a number of illustrations. This work may be useful for group discussions in Catholic schools and parishes. Esta publicaci n propone una reflexi n sobre el trasfondo hist rico y los presupuestos teol gicos y pastorales del Concilio Vaticano II, a partir de un repaso de los mismos documentos del Concilio. En una Primera Parte se da una mirada al marco hist rico y conceptual que precedi al Concilio. Ah se presenta una breve reflexi n sobre lo que es Tradici n y lo que es cambio dentro de esa Tradici n. Se incluye una breve historia de los concilios ecum nicos en la historia y una rese a del movimiento de ideas e inquietudes que de forma inmediata llevaron al Concilio. En la Segunda Parte se rese an brevemente los datos principales de la historia de las sesiones del Concilio. En la Tercera Parte se presenta un resumen y breve comentario de cada uno de los documentos del Concilio. En el Ap ndice al final hay un Glosario y otro material que puede resultar til en la reflexi n sobre algunos temas.
