OverviewThe aims of this book are to introduce and illustrate a computerised methodology that is designed to measure the magnitude of diverse mental states, emotions, and neuropsychiatric dimensions from the content analysis of speech and verbal texts. The groundwork for such an enterprise originated in the early 1950's when Louis A Gottschalk, at the National Institute of Mental Health at the time, became involved in trying to determine and understand how the arousal of emotions could trigger epileptic seizures in some patients. He soon realised that there were no adequate methods available to measure the magnitude of emotions, and he resolved to evolve a valid procedure to do so.
