Overview

"Each of the last three centuries we have left behind is associated with a technology. The 18th century was the age of mechanical systems, following the industrial revolution, the 19th century was the age of steam engines. The technology of the 20th century was the collection, processing, and distribution of information. The establishment of worldwide telephone networks, the development of radio and television technologies, and the use of satellite technologies have increased the possibilities of the computer industry tremendously. One of these possibilities is that computers communicate with each other, share their resources and provide message transmission between users. In our age, information has become an element that provides scientific and technological superiority to institutions and organizations that are produced very quickly and have the latest. For this reason, the 21st century is also called the ""Information Age"". Information also changes very quickly. Therefore, it has become a necessity to follow the developments in the world as quickly as possible. For this, information must be shared and reproduced. Generating knowledge has a strategic importance. For this, the available resources must be used in the most efficient way. Computer systems had a centralized structure in the first years of their emergence. These huge computers were kept in private rooms, and only universities and large companies had one or more. As the computer world developed, computers became partly small devices that almost everyone could easily own, and this allowed the transition from a centralized structure to a distributed structure. The development of computers in the information age has made it easier to produce and share information. Computer networks are the structures where information is transmitted and shared by connecting computer systems where information is produced and processed in the most efficient way. Two computers are said to be interconnected if they can exchange information. This connection is not only via copper wires; fiber optic cables, microwaves and communication satellites may also be used."
