OverviewThe literal translation of the Japanese word bokashi is fermented organic materials. The procedure requires stacking kitchen wastes (vegetables and fruits, along with meat and milk scraps) with a Bokashi inoculant in a specific bucket. The bucket is called a bokashi. The cover of the Bokashi bucket is airtight, and there is a faucet at the bottom of the bucket so that any liquid that is created may be drained out. The liquid needs to be emptied in order to avoid the bucket from taking on an unpleasant odor, but once it has been drained, the liquid may be used to make a bokashi tea that is incredibly nutritious and can be used to fertilize houseplants.
