Overview

Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geodynamics Series, Volume 16. This volume is devoted to recent advances in investigating the Earth's crustal and mantle structure, its composition and dynamics. Many of the papers reflect the debate organized by the International Lithosphere Program (ILP) during the Moscow International Geological Congress (1980). Others stem from discussions within one working group (WG-9) and one coordinating committee (CC-5) of ILP.

Emil Julius Klaus Fuchs was a German theoretical physicist and atomic spy who, in 1950, was convicted of supplying information from the American, British, and Canadian Manhattan Project to the Soviet Union during and shortly after the Second World War. C. Froidevaux is the editor of Composition, Structure and Dynamics of the Lithosphere-Asthenosphere System, published by Wiley.
