Overview

At the end of Other People's Business, Celeste Brinkman promised her partner, Marshall N'Dour, that she would not undertake another investigation. The semester is ending and she has just received a summer grant for her research when Janey, her cousin and best friend, asks her to help count the weekly collection at the church where she works. Celeste is, of course, willing to help and has no idea that helping Janey will lead her into another investigation with life-threatening consequences. In Complex Bonds, Celeste finds herself exploring her relationship to the Catholic faith in which she was raised and, with help from Marshall and colleagues at the university, investigating fraud and murder.
