Understanding Acupuncture Legislation in the United States 读懂美国针灸立法 Compilation of Acupuncture Legislation in the Western United States (Chinese-English Bilingual Edition) Acupuncture was introduced to the United States in the first half of the 19th century and began to gain popularity in the 1970s under the influence of the ""acupuncture fever."" Over its five decades of popularity in the United States, acupuncture has experienced three major surges and has completed four levels of localization: legal localization, educational localization, professional localization, and localization of its medical attributes. Initially, acupuncture in the U.S. was primarily used to treat pain symptoms. Later, its applications expanded to include allergic diseases, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, various tumors, hypertension, obesity, drug and alcohol addiction cessation, smoking cessation, and alleviating nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy or surgery. Traditional Chinese acupuncture therapy offers non-surgical conservative treatment for many conditions, characterized by low cost and significant efficacy. To date, 47 states and Washington, D.C. have dedicated chapters in their state laws regulating the practice of acupuncture, broadly covering concepts of acupuncture and Oriental medicine, licensing requirements for acupuncturists, education and training, practice standards, professional organization management, and disciplinary rules. Only three states-South Dakota, Alabama, and Oklahoma-lack specific acupuncture legislation. After more than two years of information collection, data organization, and analysis, the editorial team of this book has gathered, translated, proofread, and provided legal commentary on the English texts of acupuncture laws from 47 U.S. states, with a focus on presenting a comprehensive overview of the current acupuncture legal systems across these states. The series consists of five volumes, organized by region: New England and the Mid-Atlantic, the Midwest, the West, the South, and the Southwest. This volume focuses on the compilation of acupuncture legislation in the Western United States. The legislation in each region is introduced from the perspectives of the legal status of acupuncture practitioners, licensing and registration, daily regulatory bodies, professional ethics, and disciplinary reporting.
