This book presents the multiple and multifaceted challenges of the community-based epidemiological surveillance system, whose weakness remains a major public health problem. In the field, the surveillance system encounters organizational and community difficulties. It is not uncommon to see a drop in the level of staff involvement in epidemiological surveillance activities. This is why the various evaluation reports highlight the problem of community participation and the failure to respect the principles of promptness and completeness in the transmission of data collection forms. Epidemiological surveillance therefore remains a vital component in the process of prevention, detection and response to major epidemic threats. Therefore, all social strata at both national and local level in DR Congo must be taken into consideration in the community epidemiological surveillance system for early detection of epidemics, data collection and response to health crises from the bottom to the top of the health system.
