Heidi's Mom started reading to her when she was three months old. She started showing interest in reading herself by the time she was 15 months old, slightly before she started walking. At 2.5 years old, Heidi was reading baby books (3 letter words) on her own. By the time she finished her Senior Kindergarten at Kettle Lake Public School in Richmond Hill, ON, she was reading children's small chapter books. Heidi's Mom: The idea of writing this book began one early February afternoon in 2015 when Heidi shared the following comment with me: ''Mom! I wish I could write my own book.'' And I responded: ''I don't see why not!'' Heidi got to work immediately and drew up a chart (she had recently learned how to create one at school). She jotted down numbers 1 to 10 in one column and added words to rhyme with each number in a second column. Then as Heidi began illustrations on scrap paper, she decided her story should be about a family out camping. In the next three days, we refined the idea and reworked the wording to suit early readers /Grades 1 and 2. That was how 'Come Count with Happy Campers' came to be!
