Overview

September 1803. Vice-Admiral Sir Richard Bolitho finds himself the new master of the Argonaute, a French flagship taken in battle. With the Peace of Armiens in ruins, he must leave the safety of Falmouth. What lies ahead is the grim reality of war at close quarters – where Bolitho who will be called upon to anticipate the overall intention of the French fleet. But the battle has also become a personal vendetta between himself and the French admiral who formerly sailed the Argonaute. Bolitho and his men are driven to a final rendezvous where no quarter is asked or given.

Alexander Kent is writer Douglas Edward Reeman's pseudonym. Reeman was born at Thames Ditton 15 October 1924 (age 90), is a British author who has written many historical fiction books on the Royal Navy, mainly set during either World War II or the Napoleonic Wars. Kent was the name of Alexander's friend and naval officer who died during the Second World War. Michael Jayston is an English actor born in 1935. He has appeared in film and on television in many Shakespearian roles, as well as in Doctor Who, EastEnders and the televised serial Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He is the narrator for all of John le Carré’s audiobook novels and was awarded an Earphones Award for his talent recording The Constant Gardener by le Carré.
