Reviews

COLORS IN NATURE is a beautifully illustrated book of art that features animals and plants. The book walks through each color with a short poem and oversized pages with many animals and plants featuring the color. White, yellow, light brown, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, green, brown, grey, and black are all included with some backmatter about mixing colors. What I loved: The book features beautiful illustrations with each animal and plant labeled by name. There is a great spread of colors, and the poems on each page are short but lovely. The oversized pages are intriguing to glance through and think about variations of each color. This book is a great choice as a coffee table style book but even better as a tool for budding artists. The book will help to give elementary school aged readers ideas about colors, shades, and different plants and animals that they can draw in nature. Nature features span from lakes to flowers to bugs to birds to fish and more. The inclusion of the names of the pictured animals and plants will be helpful for children who want to look them up to learn more. What left me wanting more: As a small point, although it is elegant, the names of animals and plants are written in a cursive-type font that may be difficult for younger children to read. I also would have loved some animal or plant facts to add to the educational value. Final verdict: A book perfect for budding artists, COLORS OF NATURE is a beautifully illustrated book of animals and plants with the featured colors that could spark new artistic ideas and color experimentation. YA Books Central Yellow takes yet more forms in Colors in Nature, a picture book written by Czech writers Stepanka Sekaninova and Jana Sedlackova, who go into greater detail. Here in little paintings by Magdalena Konecna we see the finely graded yellows of things both well-known and less-celebrated: the blooms of forsythia and cowslip; the gleams of sulfur, gold and citrine; the yellows of ginger and bumblebees and dripping amber honey. The Wall Street Journal This is such a beautiful book! I was blown away by the vibrant illustrations and the approach to connecting colors to nature. It is a beautiful approach to teaching children colors and connecting them to animals, plants, rocks, etc. Making connections is important, and a creative approach is great for children! I want to recommend this for my library! Jordan Gray, Librarian
