OverviewValuable fragments of painted terracottas reveal their outstanding colors and a complex variety of figural scenes never seen before. One of the most relevant recoveries of works of art in the last years by the Command of the Carabinieri for the Protection of Cultural Heritage brought back to Italy a large number of finds including painted terracotta plaques, the very same that once decorated the walls of buindings in ancient Caere, following the Greek tradition of the leukomata, painted wooden tablets hanging close to one another in continuous friezes. A collection of contemporary bronzes and pottery as comparanda enriches the exhibition offered to the scholarly community and the general public, as an extraordinary testimony of the great Etruscan painting, which had in ancient Caere a peculiar development, starting from the beginning of the sixth century by virtue of the mastership of craftsmen trained in the context of East Greece.
