Author Information

Princess Mirah is the creative force behind the beautiful batik fabrics of Bali Fabrics, Inc. She cofounded the business in Bali in 1981 to bring Balinese batiks to the North American market. Initially she worked in the fashion industry, where fashion icons used Princess Mirah batiks in their collections. Princess Mirah went on to promote the use of batiks for quilting. The trend took off and batiks became a key element for quilts of various styles. The princess grew up in the palace of Karangasem, built by her grandfather, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, the last raja in Bali. He was considered the Raja di Raja, or king of kings, as he had jurisdiction over eight regions in Bali even after the Dutch had annexed Indonesia. The Karangasem palace in Eastern Bali has always been Princess Mirah's home.
