Overview

Students often do not identify with the letters and numbers that are given to them in school. Learning needs context and meaning and Dr. Karin Wiburg decided to make numbers and letters come alive as characters who engage in simple actions and adventures. This book is her attempt to connect learning with meaningful and fun images of alphanumeric characters. Being able to color the images adds another layer of meaning as the student makes the book their own.

Author Information

Dr. Karin M. Wiburg is a professor emeritus who recently retired from New Mexico State University after 25 years as a researcher and professor of mathematics education, technology, and teaching English Language Learners. Prior to working in higher education, Wiburg was a mathematics and reading specialist in the Seattle Public Schools for five years. She has a masters in counseling and cognitive psychology and a doctorate in Instructional Design. Her passion is teaching reading and math differently so all kids can learn and enjoy these subjects.
