Dr. Brown is a member of the National Scholars Honor Society and the National Educators Association. Brown's drama, Doors: Dramatic Dialogue Between and About Blacks and Whites, was awarded the outstanding new play of the year by a female writer in 1992 by the Zora Neale Hurston Workshop at the New Federal Theatre in New York City where it showcased in 1993.
