OverviewThe history of colonial education can be a painful and difficult topic. This novel tries to bring the current generation of young people closer to understanding the resilience of the people who lived through it. In West Africa, colonial powers imposed their educational system on the indigenous population, often with little regard for their needs or culture. The result was a system that was rife with hunger, corruption, and abuse. Despite these challenges, many young students were able to persevere and succeed in their studies and life generally. Through this narrative, which combines fact with fiction, the stories of these resilient children, who overcame extreme adversity to build a better future for themselves and their communities are explored. By examining their experiences, we can gain some perspectives about colonial education and the incredible strength of the human spirit.
