Cold War Fallout: Boundary Politics and Conflict in the Horn of Africa

Overview

This study explores the contentious issues of inherited colonial boundaries in Africa, especially the Horn, and the role of international politics in the life of the region. In the mid-20th century the Horn of Africa nations were endlessly at odds over border issues. The conflicts acquired a new dimension when Cold War politics turned its attention to establishing spheres of influence in Africa. The conflict which is the focus of this study became one of the longest-running disputes on the African continent, and the Horn an arena for superpower rivalry.
