OverviewThis study explores the contentious issues of inherited colonial boundaries in Africa, especially the Horn, and the role of international politics in the life of the region. In the mid-20th century the Horn of Africa nations were endlessly at odds over border issues. The conflicts acquired a new dimension when Cold War politics turned its attention to establishing spheres of influence in Africa. The conflict which is the focus of this study became one of the longest-running disputes on the African continent, and the Horn an arena for superpower rivalry.
