Overview

This is an in-depth look at the covert and illegal FBI counterintelligence programme in the United States, codenamed COINTELPRO. Much of what is known about this decades-long political disruption programme is the result of evidence forced to light through a lawsuit brought by the Socialist Workers party and Young Socialism Alliance against the FBI spying, harassment and disruption. Filed in 1973, at the height of the Watergate crisis, the suit was settled 13 years later when a federal judge ruled in favour of the SWP and the YSA. The COINTELPRO operations described in this book provide an insight into the methods used by FBI, CIA, military intelligence and other US police agencies.
