Author Information

ICC is a leading organization dedicated to developing a single set of comprehensive, coordinated national model construction codes. To date, 48 U.S. states have adopted various international codes from ICC. Battalion Chief Don Smith has been employed with the Austin Fire Department for 28 years. He was assigned to the Emergency Prevention Division for 15 years, thereby attaining the position of Fire marshal for the City of Austin. Chief Smith has recently been elected to the Chief Safety Officer position for the Austin Fire Department. He attended the University of Texas and Austin Community College and holds a degree in Fire Protection Technology.
