Author Information

Diving instructor, filmmaker, adventurer and storyteller Stratis Kas, deals with all of his subjects-from expeditions in extreme weather to days lost in wilderness-with unique sensitivity and fearless focus. He travels to remote, sometimes risky and often freezing locations to create stunning films that change what we know about diving expeditions. Stratis' interest in making a real connection with nature is reflected in his ability to shift from filmmaker to explorer. In his stunning material that highlights a variety of challenging locations around the world, he shows how natural landscapes can serve as examples of what should offer (or can offer) human inspiration. His presentations are a window into the wild world. Since 2016 Stratis has led the Top2bottom cave filming team that specialises in adventure filming. In 2017, he completed his first film Amphitrite which was selected as a finalist in the SHORT to the Point, the International Short Film Festival in 2018. He is currently finishing his second film, Infinite Liquid. This is Stratis' first book. Michael Menduno is an award-winning reporter and technologist who has written about diving and diving technology for more than 30 years and coined the term technical diving. In addition to his reporting duties, he is the co-founder and the editor-in-chief of Global Underwater Explorers' (GUE) online magazine InDepth, a contributing editor for DAN Europe's Alert Diver, Underwater Speleology, and X-Ray magazine, and a staff writer for DeeperBlue.com. His magazine aquaCORPS: The Journal for Technical Diving (1990-1996) helped usher tech diving into mainstream sports diving. He also produced the first Tek, EUROTek and ASIATek conferences, and organized Rebreather Forums 1.0 and 2.0. In addition to tech and cave diving, he is a passionate U.S. Masters swimmer. Edoardo Pavia was a free diver for fifteen years before he started scuba a decade later, in the mid-80s. Very quickly he was converted to diving closed circuit rebreathers (CCR). On the onset of the new millennium, he established the Sea Dweller Divers company, both a scuba shop and diving school, specialising in technical dive equipment and training. In 2002, he became the Italian distributor for AP Valves' CCR diving units in Italy. He rapidly began a career with the leading technical agency IANTD as an instructor and then as an instructor trainer across Italy and Europe. At present, he is still committed to deep diving and especially underwater filming. Edoardo Pavia has had the honour of participating in some of the most challenging expeditions to date, including: four times on the Britannic, the Andrea Doria and the incredible warship HMS Victoria in Lebanon. He has also extensively dived on the Italian liner Viminale and once (which he believes is enough), on the Carpathia (155m+ depth). He has also dived in Antarctica for an Italian TV documentary. Edoardo is also a cave diver and has dived with some of the most experienced cave divers in the world, like friends Rick Stanton and Gigi (Luigi) Casati. Often a speaker at prestigious international conferences, he resides in Rome with his wife Gaia and their children Guglielmo, Matilda and Leonardo.
