Between 2013 and 2017, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Ophthalmology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. In 2017, Dr Schmidtmann took up a lectureship at the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom. Since 2021, Dr Schmidtmann has been an Associate Professor for Optometry and Vision Science at the School of Health Professions at the University of Plymouth. Dr Schmidtmann's research interests range from theoretical and psychophysical studies of visual perception to clinical research on the effects of traumatic brain injuries on visual functions.
