This book addresses basic skills unique to the physician, skills that enable correct diagnosis and care of the patient-the medical interview, diagnostic clinical reasoning, physical examination, the Biopsychosocial approach to the patient and the Ethics of Caring. The writings of William Osler are as applicable to contemporary medical practice they were over 100 years ago. The great medical-philosophical writings of Hippocrates and Confucius are as true now as they were over a thousand years ago.

Author Information

Dr. Cass is a a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He has taught medical students, house officers and fellows at UR Medicine for many years while remaining in full time private practice. He is the author of 20 medical publications and the textbook, Rochester Medical Practice. He is a recipient of the Univesity of Rochester Lawrence Kohn Teaching Award. Currently he teaches Master Clinician Classes and in the Primary Care Clerkship at UR Medicine.
